Remember, if you missed class or if you are unsure of what is going on, there is extra help every Tuesday and Thursday at second half of lunch.
Mme Roach
Over the past two days we have revisited and reviewed everything we have learned about fractions over the past 2-3 weeks. I am currently in the middle of correcting their quizzes and I have 19 students coming to write at lunch who were absent on Friday. There are many students who are confidently ready to move on and many who should be coming in for some smaller group guided help over the next few weeks. As we look forward to our next chapter, we will be reviewing circles and circles graphs before we get into the world of Probability! Can you imagine we have about 6 weeks of math left of the year?! CRAZY! Remember, if you missed class or if you are unsure of what is going on, there is extra help every Tuesday and Thursday at second half of lunch. Mme Roach

Today, we used algebra tiles to solve equations and understand the algebraic method. Tomorrow, students have a quiz on expression and equations with Mme Roach.
Have a great weekend! Mme Killam Today students completed their 22nd Mental Math of the 2018-2019 school year. They self corrected as a class and voiced that they feel more confident with their mental math skills than they did at the beginning of the year - this is great news! We had a pre-quiz practice page today which allowed students to work on evaluating algebraic equations. Their quiz on Friday will include:
1) Word problems related to algebraic equations and vice versa 2) Definition of both an expression and an equation 3) Algebra tiles (blocks) 4) Able to find and name the Constant, Co efficient, and variable 5) Linear equations and graphing 6) Solving Algebraic Equations Please remind students that it is their responsibility to come for extra help and to study at home to ensure that they understand the material prior to their quiz. Bonne chance and Happy Wednesday! Mme Roach Today, students were introduced to Algebra Tiles and were able to practice with them. This is a strategy that can be very helpful for some especially when they enter the stage where they are working with both positive and negative variables and numbers. In grade 8 this strategy will be used very often and it is expected that they understand clearly how to find the variable using the tiles.
We will continue with this tomorrow! Madame Roach Students were given a quiz to check for understanding last week on angles, parallel lines, perpendicular lines and bisectors. Today I was able to give them back and talk about them. Please have these discussions with your children and let them know that anyone who struggled with the quiz and who needs extra help is invited to my classroom on Tuesday from 12:15-12:35.
Have a great Easter Weekend, Mme Roach Today we practiced how to graph our equations, revisited coordinates, and were able to solve problems using an algebraic equation! Our activity with calendars and algebra was a really great way to get students starting to think about Algebra and how to come up with their own equations when looking at problems. Check out what we did today:
Today students had a small quiz to check understand on: angles, triangles, perpendicular line, parallel lines, and bisectors. This quiz took most students under 30 minutes to complete and it was very obvious after that time who still needs more work. There will be extra help given regarding this concept on Tuesday from 12:15-12:35. Please let your child know that this is a great time to get caught up and ask the questions they may not feel comfortable asking in front of the class. We will make sure to focus on all of these concepts and review the quiz during this time.
Have a great weekend, Mme. Roach Today, we continued to work on algebraic expressions and translating real-life situations into the form of an algebraic expression to then use to calculate predictions. Discussion was great and students had over half the class to practice and continue building their skills. Most students completed their work in class; however, those who did not need to finish the following questions for homework (p. 23-24, no's 1, 2, 3, 4, & 6. The bonus question is #9 (If you can do this one, you are well on your way!!).
Reminder that students have a quiz tomorrow on angles, parallel and perpendicular lines, etc. Have a great weekend! Mme Killam This week students have been introduced to the difference between algebraic equations and expressions. We have been learning vocabulary that goes along with basic algebra concepts and we have been able to practice writing expressions that go along with word problems. Today we completed our 20th mental math of the year and students are seeing great strides in their results and their confidence. We will have a small quiz on triangles, angles, and parallel and perpendicular lines on Friday to wrap up the unit that was started two weeks ago. As for the next two weeks, we will be concentrating on Algebra and linear relations. This unit can be very enjoyable if students ensure that they understand the basics from this week before continuing on. Please make sure you are always in constant conversation with your child about what is going on at school - I learn so much from them everyday!
