This week students have been working hard completing their March District Math Benchmarks. These Benchmarks include 20 multiple choice questions based on the outcomes we have covered to date, 10 mental math questions that we have learned/practiced since September, and two large word problems. Students are giving it their all but it sure does take some stamina! Give your child a high five tonight when they get home - job well done! Mme Roach Today we played WAR with Integers. The red face cards are all negative and the black cards are considered to be positive. This is a GREAT way to practice addition of integers and a pretty intense game to play with your child! Please ask them the rules, grab a deck of cards, and have some fun! I am sure it is much more enjoyable to play at home than it is at school with 27 other excited players! Have a great night! Mme Roach Happy Pi Day!
Today we reviewed adding integers and introduced subtracting integers using the context of a hot-air balloon and the number line. Students also completed three activities in groups: integer golf, solving a riddle using integers, and an alphabet challenge. The alphabet challenge is posted below if students want to continue to work on it throughout the week. The student (or group of students) who find the word with the smallest and greatest sums will win a prize. At the moment, the word with the smallest sum is -76 and the word with the greatest sum is +49. Good luck! Mme Roach and I are currently working on report cards. There are still several students who have not handed in their coordinate art assignment for our coordinates unit which was due in January. This needs to be handed in ASAP! Happy Thursday!
