Have a great weekend,
Madame Roach
3/4 classes have completed their benchmarks and have had a chance to see how they did on their 3 separate strands for Term 1. This information will be available for families next week. 7 LeBlanc did not have a chance to finish today as we had a very important MADD (Mothers Against Drinking and Driving) presentation this afternoon that rocked some of us to our core. On Monday we will be starting our unit on circles and HOMEWORK is that everyone needs to bring in an item from home in shape of a circle for discovery.
Have a great weekend, Madame Roach

Today students were able to review outcomes we have covered over the course of the year and we were all very surprised/not so surprised which outcomes have stuck with us and which ones have faded. If you have time to check in with your child and ask them about either of these following outcomes it would be a big help: 1) Divisibility Rules 2) Mean, Median, Mode, Range, Outliers 3) Adding Decimals 4) Multiplying and Dividing Decimals 5) Terminating Decimals Multiplication Quizzes handed back today and second part (division) will be completed tomorrow!11/19/2019 First of all, Mme Killam and I are very excited to meet all of you Thursday evening and Friday morning. We have had the students organize their portfolios and are looking forward to showing their work to you all. We have our second half of our decimal quiz tomorrow where we will be checking for understanding with division of decimals. This will be a great benchmark for us to know where we can continue from here.
Moving forward next week we will be starting to talk about everything "circle". Each student will be required to bring in something circular (2 dimensional) for Monday. We look forward to seeing you, Mme Roach Students are starting to get the idea of dividing decimals. We have reviewed their long division strategies from grade 6 and are now working on dividing by tens, hundreds, and thousands, as well as tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. Once students are comfortable with the benchmark divisibility questions they will feel more confident with questions such as those listed below. Make sure you are speaking with your child and asking them questions relating to halves, dividing, sharing, finding a quarter of...all of these conversations are extremely important in developing greater understanding of the concepts.
Mme Roach Today, students had their mental math quiz on the "Break Up And Bridge" subtraction strategy. With shortened periods for our Remembrance Day assembly and many students participating, no new mental strategy was introduced today. The remainder of the period, students worked on practicing multiplication of decimals in order to solve a riddle. I look forward to hearing who has found the solution next Thursday!
Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow as it is a professional learning day and report card writing day for teachers. There is no school on Monday in order to observe Remembrance Day. Have a great long weekend! Mme Killam |
